Assessment Committee

The Student Congress Assessment Committee is a group of students who, in partnership with the Frost Center for Data and Research, evaluate the ways that Hope College’s co-curricular structures and services serve students. Each student’s experience informs the assessment of each service and strengthens the continuous improvement of Hope College.

Assessment Guide


Student Congress Assessment Committee serves to evaluate the ways that Hope College’s co-curricular structures and services serve students. The Assessment Committee, Frost Center for Data and Research, and Student Congress task forces will partner with various departments to assess Hope College’s structures and services to determine how effectively they are serving all students at Hope College. The Assessment Committee will utlize a transparent and sustainable structure to make Hope College an institution that proactively prevents discrimination or bias on the basis of race; color; national origin; sex; disability; age; cultural identity; ethnicity; nationality; citizenship; family educational history; political or religious affiliation; sexual orientation; gender identity and expression; marital, family, social, or economic status.


These assessments will focus on various aspects of said department, examining things such as student involvement in decision making, which students on campus are being served, and the accessibility of the department to all students.

  • Chief of Assessment: Serve as liaison between department leads and Student Congress members, oversee the distribution of surveys at the beginning of each semester, distribute Frost Research Center data and analysis to task force chairs, oversee completion and approval of assessment report
  • Task Force Chairs: Guide task force members in evaluating case data, oversee writing of assessment report and recommendations
  • Task Forces: Analyze survey data, perform interviews, collect and review departmental documents, write assessment report and recommendations
  • Department Leads: Communicate with Chief of Assessment and task force chairs as they collect data, review assessment report and recommendations once completed, lead department’s reformative action as needed in preparation for next assessment cycle
  • Students: Complete the surveys to offer data on their student experience, insight and understanding of how the assessed services impact them.
