Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB USA) is a national organization that seeks to build a better world through engineering projects that empower communities to meet their basic human needs and equip leaders to solve the world’s most pressing challenges.

The EWB USA – Hope College Chapter started a new partnership with a children’s school in Teodomiro, Ecuador, in 2021 after successfully closing their partnership with a community in Bondo, Kenya, where drilled wells and a rainwater catchment system were installed.

The partnership with Teodomiro focuses on improving school grounds and facilities at the existing primary school. In July 2022, the EWB USA – Hope College Chapter traveled to Teodormio to install a schoolyard enclosure that had been conceptualized by the community and designed by the chapter during the academic school year. In addition to the installation, the chapter collected data on water sources in the area and held discussions with the community to aid in prioritizing the next needs for the school. Through an alliance with a local organization, New Horizons, EWB USA – Hope College is planning to revisit the community in the spring of 2023.

This project presents new opportunities for applying engineering, business, communication and project management skills, all in a philanthropic context. The chapter intends to travel to the community annually to create an atmosphere for community partnership, immersive learning for students and the best project outcomes possible.

EWB USA – Hope College Chapter is seeking donors to support our efforts, as well as mentors in the engineering field to assist with future projects. Learn how you can get involved!
