Ms. Powell, a Michigan native, began her professional performing career
with the Boston Repertory Ballet. From there she continued her career with
a variety of companies such as Ballet Michigan, Ohio Ballet, Ballet der
Stadichen Buhnun (Frankfurt Ballet), North Atlantic Ballet, Minnesota Dance
Theater, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and Aerial Dance Theater directed
by Linda Graham and Steven Iannacone. Julie’s interest in both classical
and contemporary work has allowed her the opportunity to work with and
learn from outstanding directors, teachers and choreographers throughout
the United States and Europe. For the past 20 years, Julie has used her
years of experience towards teaching, directing, choreographing and furthering
the development of dance in West Michigan. Currently, Julie is the Dance
Director for Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Director of Lakeshore Dance Muskegon
and recently developed “KICKIN IT” a community based dance
outreach program. She also serves on the board of directors for the Michigan
Dance Council.

I believe an education in dance is really an opportunity to learn
more about ourselves, how we work, how we learn, our strengths, our weaknesses.
I respect the development of each dancer and recognize that developing
young artists contributes to our arts community as a collective whole.”
