Special Programs and Opportunities

From scholarships to off-campus internships in Chicago, Philadelphia and New York, there are plenty of opportunities for incoming and current theatre students.

Distinguished Artist Awards

Renewable for four years, the Distinguished Artist Awards (DAA) provide eligible incoming art, dance, music, theatre or creative writing students with $3,000 each year toward their college costs. Theatre DAA recipients must plan to major or minor in theatre. Learn more about the DAA in theater.

Capstone Projects

Advanced students have the opportunity to work on independent student-led (THEA 497) productions, which include actors, designers, stage managers and directors. Students must apply one semester before the planned production.

Hope Repertory Theatre

Hope Rep is an Equity Small Professional Theatre operating on Hope’s campus. Our students have the opportunity to work with theatre professionals from around the country through internships and employment.

The Many voices Project

Through play readings and discussions, staged readings, guest performances and full productions, The Many Voices Project gives students an opportunity to lean into the department's mission regarding “art that makes a difference” by seeking to explore and highlight stories from traditionally marginalized groups.

Off-Campus Opportunities

Our students take advantage of exciting opportunities working directly with arts organizations in the Great Lakes Colleges Association (GLCA) New York Arts Program, the Chicago Semester and more.
