Lisa Walcott
Billy Mayer Associate Professor of ArtLisa Walcott has been a faculty member at Hope College since 2018. With a deep commitment to both education and her artistic practice, she teaches a variety of sculpture courses, the capstone course for art majors, and a First-Year Seminar that introduces students to the artistic process. She has also been involved in multiple student-faculty research projects, guiding students through collaborative explorations, and is the founder and mentor of the Art Club at Hope College.
Lisa is an active and widely exhibiting artist known for her innovative work that often involves the manipulation of familiar objects and the use of kinetics. Her studio practice involves investigations into the materials and processes that bring deeper meaning to her work.
Professional Experience
Lisa specializes in sculpture and installation and the dialogue that surrounds the
three-
dimensional medium. She makes kinetic sculpture and installation work revolving around
ideas
of home, the everyday, and the feminine experience. Installations of idiosyncratic
motion—like
swarm mobiles, or soap piles emerging from the floor—immerse the viewer in a familiar
but
different reality. Hybrid machines multitask, becoming portraits of ingenuity.
Lisa has exhibited her work nationally including at The Sculpture Center in Cleveland,
ACRE
Projects and Three Walls in Chicago, The Urban Institute for Contemporary Art in Grand
Rapids,
Michigan, and The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum in East Lansing, Michigan.
