Location
The Archives and Special Collections reading room is located at 53 Graves Place, on the lower level of Van Wylen Library. It is an attractive location where researchers can study (as archival materials do not circulate outside the building). Collections are open to all unless materials are specifically restricted.
Holland is conveniently located just off of I-196, only 170 miles from Chicago, 225 miles from Detroit and 25 miles from Grand Rapids. The city is served by Amtrak, and a commercial airport is located 45 minutes from the Haworth Inn and Conference Center.
Driving Directions
From the north (Muskegon) — US-31
Proceed south on US-31 to 16th St., turn right, proceed to College Ave., turn right, proceed to 10th St. and Hope College. The Archives is located at 53 Graves Place.
From the east (Grand Rapids, Lansing, Detroit) — I-96 and I-196
From I-196, take Exit 52 west to US-31 (3rd traffic light), cross US-31 and continue west to College Ave., turn right, proceed to 10th St. and Hope College. The Archives is located at 53 Graves Place.
From the Grand Rapids Airport — 44th St. and I-196
Upon leaving the airport, stay on 44th St. going west to I-196, proceed toward Holland, take Exit 52 west to US-31 (3rd traffic light), cross US-31 and continue west to College Ave., turn right, proceed to 10th St. and Hope College. The Archives is located at 53 Graves Place.
From the southeast (Kalamazoo, Battle Creek) — US-131 and M-40
From M-40, proceed to US-31, turn right and proceed north to 16th St., go past the traffic light and make a U-turn onto southbound US-31, turn right on 16th St., proceed to College Ave., turn right, proceed to 10th St. and Hope College. The Archives is located at 53 Graves Place.
From the south (Benton Harbor, South Bend, Chicago) — I-94 and I-196 and US-31
From US-31, proceed north to 16th St., go past the traffic light and make a U-turn onto southbound US-31, turn right on 16th St., proceed to College Ave., turn right, proceed to 10th St. and Hope College. The Archives is located at 53 Graves Place.
