Hope College senior Lisa Hoekstra of Grandville, Mich. (Calvin Christian HS) has been named to Division III all-district women's basketball team by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

She is one of five players selected from NCAA Division III colleges in Michigan and Ohio. She becomes eligible for All-America consideration in the recognition program sponsored by the Eastman Kodak Company.

Hoekstra was voted the most valuable player in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) as the Flying Dutch captured the conference championship and posted an overall 21-5 record.

"I am pleased that the coaches in our district recognized the accomplishments of Lisa," said coach Brian Morehouse. "She is exemplary of what we strive for in our basketball program. She is a strong student, a leader on campus and our team, a person with a strong Christian commitment and a great basketball player.

"Lisa has played a huge role in the improvement of our program the past four years. Her play and leadership have left their mark on our program."

A three-time All-MIAA first team honoree, Hoekstra ended as Hope's all-time leading scorer with 1,249 points. This season she averaged a team-leading 14.4 points a game shooting 47% from the floor and 77% from the free throw line. She averaged just 1.9 turnovers per game while averaging 26 minutes per contest.

Other players named to the all-district team are Anjee Beard of Baldwin-Wallace, Ohio, Josie Eilerman of Wilmington, Ohio, Kendra Meyer of Capital, Ohio and Katy Sturtz of Ohio Wesleyan.

Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game as an amateur sport for women and girls.
