Center City Brass Quintet, a group
quickly earning praise for setting new standards of artistry
on brass instruments, will perform at Hope College through
the Great Performance Series on Friday, Oct. 20, at 8 p.m.
in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The evening will feature works by Malcolm Arnold,
Paul Hindemith, Viktor Ewald, Jan Koetsler, Leonard
Bernstein, and Anthony DiLorenzo--Center City's own Emmy-
award winning composer and trumpet player.
Founded in 1985, the group earned first prize from
the Coleman Chamber Music Competition and the Carmel Chamber
Music Competition in 1988. Known for their wide range of
musical styles as well as their high energy and finely-
polished style, they have been praised in the "Cleveland
Plain Dealer" for "music that leaves the ears spellbound."
They have recorded two CDs. The most recent,
titled "Street Song," features original compositions for
brass quintet by Leonard Bernstein, Andre Previn and others.
Their first CD, "Brass Quintets," contains standard brass
chamber music works. The "American Record Guide" called it
"one of the all-time great brass recordings." Concert goers
will have the opportunity to purchase CDs and meet the
artists at a reception following the performance.
Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located at 12th Street
and College Avenue.
Tickets will be available beginning Wednesday,
Oct. 18, at the theatre lobby ticket office of the DeWitt
Center, and cost $12.50 for regular adult admission, $10.50
for senior citizens and $6.50 for students. Tickets will
also be available at the door on the night of the
performance.
The DeWitt Center is located at 12th Street and
Columbia Avenue. The ticket office will be open from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 18-20.
Season subscriptions are also still available for
the 2000-01 Great Performance Series, which will also
include performances by piano trio The Triple Helix,
Saffire-The Uppity Blues Women, classical quartet Quartetto
Gelato, Anthony Zerbe and Roscoe Lee Browne in the dramatic
performance "Behind the Broken Words," and medieval
vocalists Anonymous 4. Subscription prices are $50 for
adults, $42 for senior citizens, $22 for Hope students and
$100 for families.
