Awards to members of Hope's MIAA champion women's soccer team have been announced by coach Lindsey Engelsman.

The Flying Dutch won a school-record 16 games this fall en route to their first-ever MIAA conference championship and berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Junior Dawn Gillam of Portage, Mich. (Portage Northern HS) was chosen the team's most valuable player and best offensive player while freshman Holly Nestle of Mason, Mich. (Mason HS) was chosen the best defensive player. Both players were also voted to the All-MIAA and All-Region teams.

Freshman Erin Dargis of Geneva, Ill. (Geneva Community HS) was named the team's most improved player while sophomore Lauren Stieper of Dearborn, Mich. (Dearborn HS) was honored as the most inspirational.

Elected captains of the 2004 team were Gillam, sophomore Tess Scholz of Portage, Mich. (Portage Northern HS), and senior Catie Neidlinger of Marshall, Mich. (Marshall HS). The three were also captains of this year's team.
