BASEBALL
The Flying Dutchmen finished third in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings with an 11-7 record and were 23-17 overall, marking the fourth consecutive year of winning 20 or more games.

Senior Aaron Quimby of Quincy (Quincy HS) was voted the team's most valuable player while freshman Mike VanderVelde of Grandville (Grandville HS) was chosen the rookie of the year. Freshman Danny Keogh of Grosse Pointe Farms (Grosse Pointe South HS) was presented the team's Dutchmen award for overall contribution to the team.

Elected captains of the 2005 team were Jon Deming of Portage (Portage Northern HS), Jon Edmondson of Grand Rapids (Forest Hills Central HS), and Andrew Vlasak of Grosse Pointe (Grosse Pointe South HS).

Several Hope players received all-conference honors. Voted to the All-MIAA first team were second baseman Mike VanderVelde, and pitchers Jon Deming and Andrew Vlasak. Senior outfielder Aaron Quimby received All-MIAA second team recognition. Receiving coaches' honorable mention were senior Kenny Bart of Jenison (Jenison HS), sophomore Nate Brandsen of Holland (Holland Christian HS), sophomore Jon Edmondson, freshman Colin Fry of St. Joseph (St. Joseph HS), and senior catcher Eric MacKenzie of Alpena (Alpena HS).

Mike Vandervelde was the MIAA's leading hitter batting .452 (19 for 42). He also topped the league in slugging percentage (.643)

SOFTBALL
The Flying Dutch finished fourth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings. The Dutch tied for fourth in the regular season race (8-6) and were third in the conference tournament to end fourth in the seasonal standings. The Dutch posted an overall 20-17 record.

Senior Kelly Kraft of Brown City (Brown City HS) was voted the team's most valuable player while sophomore pitcher Kelsey Guisbert of Farmington (Farmington HS) and junior catcher Lauren Vande Kopple of Rockford (Rockford HS) were chosen as the most improved players.

Elected captains of the 2005 team were Candace Graham of Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS) and Libby Hammon of Allegan (Allegan HS).

Kelly Kraft was voted to the All-MIAA first team and All-Region team for the second consecutive year. Lauren Vande Kopple received All-MIAA second team recognition. Receiving coaches' honorable mention were Candace Graham and sophomore Rebecca Whitman of Ludington (Ludington HS).

Sophomore Emily Adams of Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS) joined Kraft on the All-Region squad receiving third team honors.

MEN'S TENNIS
The Flying Dutchmen finished second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings. The Dutchmen were second in the regular season's dual match standings (4-1) and second in the conference tournament. The team posted an overall 11-9 dual match record.

Senior Kevney Dugan of Holland (Holland Christian HS) and sophomore Andy Phillips of White Pigeon (Sturgis HS) shared the honor as the team's most valuable players while Kevney Dugan and senior Erik Frost of Midland (Midland HS) were presented the sportsmanship award. Junior Jason Wagenmaker of Grand Haven (Grand Haven HS) was voted the team's most improved player. The 2005 captains will be announced at a later date.

Kevney Dugan and Jason Wagenmaker were voted to the All-MIAA first team while Phillips and sophomore Andy Ruemenapp of Petoskey (Petoskey HS) received All-MIAA second team honors. Dugan was an All-MIAA first team honoree for a third consecutive year. He was also presented the MIAA's Stowe Sportsmanship Award.

Jason Wagenmaker and Andy Ruemenapp were conference doubles champions at the second flight.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
The Flying Dutch finished fifth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings. The Dutch posted a 3-4 conference dual match record and were fourth in the league tournament. The team posted an overall 11-9 dual match record.

Sophomore Anneliese Fox of Alma (Alma HS) was voted the MIAA's most valuable player after winning the conference championship at first flight singles for the second consecutive year. She posted an overall 16-3 record.

Fox was voted to the All-MIAA first team for a second consecutive year while senior Stephanie Springer of Bloomfield Village (Birmingham Seaholm HS) received All-MIAA second team recognition.

MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
The Flying Dutchmen finished third in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings, posting a 3-2 record in dual meets and ending third at the league meet.

Junior Peter Derby of Cadillac (Cadillac) was voted the team's most valuable track performer and sophomore Phil Wilson of Fruitport (Muskegon HS) was voted the most valuable field performer. Honored as the rookie of the year was freshman Aaron Kenemer of Zeeland (Zeeland HS) while recognized for having the best mental attitude was senior Tony Gawron of Muskegon (Reeths-Puffer HS).

Conference champions were pole vaulter Tony Gawron and freshman Aaron Kenemer of Zeeland (Zeeland HS) in the 800-meter run. Both were voted to the All-MIAA team.

Freshman Ryan TerLouw of Pella, Iowa established a school record in the 1,500-meter run (3:50.59) while qualifying for the NCAA Division III national championships.

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
The Flying Dutch finished second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings, posting a 4-1 record in dual meets and placing second at the league meet.

Senior Christy Watkin of Holland (West Ottawa HS) was voted the team's most valuable track performer and junior Emily Schlitz of Potterville (Potterville HS) was voted the most valuable field performer. Sharing rookie of the year honors were freshmen Jen VanderMeer of Holland (Holland HS) and Leslie Tableman of Lansing (Lansing Eastern HS). Honored for having the best mental attitude was senior Kara Van Assen of Jenison (Jenison HS).

Conference champions were Christy Watkin, long jump; senior Jennifer Price of Battle Creek (Lakeview HS), 800-meter run; and Leslie Tableman, 1,500-meter run. Watkin won the long jump for the third consecutive year while Price was the 800 winner for a third time over four seasons.

Voted to the All-MIAA team were Jennifer Price, Leslie Tableman, Kara Van Assen, Jen VanderMeer and Christy Watkin.

Establishing school records were Christy Watkin, long jump (18-9); Kara Van Assen, triple jump (36-1 1/2); and Jen VanderMeer, pole vault (12-0).
