Hope College will present its annual Concerto/Aria Concert on Friday, Feb. 3,at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The concert is presented each year to highlight students at Hope College who have successfully passed the audition process. Eight performers were selected in the late fall by a panel of judges, and will perform with the Hope College Orchestra.
Hillary Byker, a soprano and sophomore from Hudsonville who is a student of Linda Dykstra, will be singing "Non so piu cosa son" from "The Marriage of Figaro," by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Lea Blackney, a cellist and junior from Troy who is a student of Richard Piippo, will be performing the "Cello Concerto No. 1," by Camille Saint-Saens. Chelsea Kramer, a soprano and junior from Traverse City who is a student of Linda Dykstra, will be performing "Wir armen, armen Madchen," by Albert Lortzing.
Rachel Daley, a flutist and sophomore from Cleveland, Ohio, who is a student of Julie Sooy, will be performing "Concerto for Flute and Orchestra," by Jacque Ibert. Alexandru Hamzea, a violinist and freshman from Brasov, Romania, who is a student of Mihai Craioveanu, will be performing the "Concerto No. 1 in D major," by Nicolo Paganini. Chris Turbessi, a pianist and sophomore from Nunica who is a student of Charles Aschbrenner, will be performing the "Concerto No. 5," by Ludwig van Beethoven. Emily Sternisha, a soprano and junior from Fredonia, N.Y., who is a student of Margaret Kennedy-Dygas, will be performing "Saper vorreste" from the opera "Un Ballo in Maschera," by Giuseppe Verdi. Isaac Droscha, a baritone and sophomore from Mason who is a student of Linda Dykstra, will be performing "Neither sleep nor rest" from "Prince Igor," by Alexander Borodin.
Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on College Avenue at 12th Street.
