WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

11/22/10 - Carrie Snikkers
Centers Carrie Snikkers of Hope and Carissa Verkaik of Calvin are the MIAA's co-players of the week. Snikkers, a senior from Jenison (Hudsonville Unity Christian HS), scored 49 points (16.3 per game) and pulled down 23 rebounds (7.7 per game) as Hope opened its season with three consecutive victories. She earned Most Valuable Player honors in Hope's Tip-Off Tournament with 12 points and seven rebounds in a 76-32 victory over Manchester, Ind., and 18 points and nine rebounds in a 72-45 win over Baldwin-Wallace, Ohio. She shot 65 percent (19 of 29) from the field and 50 percent (5 of 10) from 3-point range. Snikkers is being honored as Player of the Week for the seventh time in her career.

11/29/10 Carrie Snikkers
For the second consecutive week and the eighth time in her career, center Carrie Snikkers is the MIAA women's basketball player of the week. A senior from Jenison (Hudsonville Unity Christian HS), Snikkers scored 27 points in just 20 minutes of play as the Flying Dutch defeated Defiance, Ohio, 76-56. She made 8 of 9 shots from the field, including two 3-pointers, and all eight of her free throws. She also grabbed six rebounds, blocked three shots and did not commit a turnover. Snikkers was chosen the Division III national player of the year as a junior.

12/6/10 - Erika Bruinsma
Forward Erika Bruinsma is the MIAA women's basketball player of the week. A senior from Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids Christian HS), Bruinsma scored 24 points in 36 minutes of action as the Flying Dutch remained unbeaten with two victories. She was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field in scoring 12 points and pulling down six rebounds in 18 minutes of play as Hope defeated North Park, Ill., 72-47, and followed that with 12 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots in 18 minutes of action as the Flying Dutch opened MIAA play with a 70-44 victory over Alma. Bruinsma is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career. This marks the third consecutive week that a Hope player has been honored as the MIAA women's basketball player of the week.

2/7/11 Liz Ellis
Liz Ellis, a sophomore from Grand Rapids (East Grand Rapids HS), is sharing MIAA player of the week honors with Patt Rewa of Albion. Last week she scored 28 points in leading the Flying Dutch to a pair of key MIAA wins that pulled them within a half-game of Calvin in the conference race. She scored 12 points in a 79-59 win over Saint Mary's, then scored a season-high 16 points, more than twice her average, as Hope handed Calvin its first MIAA loss, 70-48. Ellis, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career, made 8 of 19 shots from the field (42 percent), including 4 of 9 on 3-point shots (44 percent), and all eight of her free throws (100 percent) for the week.

2/21/11 Carrie Snikkers
All-American Carrie Snikkers is being honored as the MIAA Player of the Week for the ninth time in her career. She is sharing this week's honor with Kelley Murphy of Saint Mary's. A senior from Jenison (Hudsonville Unity Christian HS), Snikkers scored 34 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in leading Hope to two victories that clinched a share of the MIAA championship. She had 18 points and seven rebounds in just 16 minutes of action in an 82-43 rout of Olivet, then added 16 points and five rebounds in a 66-48 victory over Albion. She made 13 of 20 shots (65 percent) from the field and 6 of 8 (75 percent) from the free-throw line for the week. Snikkers is being honored as Player of the Week for the third time this season.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

12/27/10 - Will Bowser
Forward Will Bowser is the MIAA men's basketball player of the week. A senior from Midland (Dow HS), Bowser scored 39 points in two games, earning tournament Most Valuable Player honors at the RDV Sportsplex D3 Classic in Orlando, Fla. He scored 22 points, including the go-ahead free throws in the final minute, as Hope rallied to defeat Lake Forest, Ill., 69-65. He then added 17 points, including three 3-point baskets, in 20 minutes of play as the Flying Dutchmen downed Dominican, Ill., 86-54. Bowser, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and third time in his career, made 14 of 26 shots from the field (54 percent), 4 of 7 on 3-pointers (57 percent) and all seven of his free throws, and added six steals in the two games.

1/3/11 - David Krombeen
Guard David Krombeen, a junior from Grandville (Grandville HS), Krombeen scored 37 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out 11 assists and added 15 steals in earning tournament Most Valuable Player honors at Hope's Russ DeVette Holiday Classic. He scored 16 points and added seven assists, six steals and five rebounds in a 91-68 victory over Marygrove, then came back the following night with 21 points, nine steals, six rebounds and four assists as the Flying Dutchmen defeated Malone, Ohio, 86-80. Krombeen, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career, made 14 of 25 shots from the field (56 percent) and 7 of 12 from the line (58 percent) for the week.

1/17/11 - Will Bowser
Senior Will Bowser of Midland (Dow HS) is the MIAA Player of the Week for the second time this season, sharing the honor with Kalamazoo's Ryan Clark. Last week in a pair of conference victories Bowser scored 42 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to move his team into a share of first place in the conference race. He scored 24 points and collected eight rebounds in an 89-58 win over Alma, and added 18 points and six rebounds in a 77-71 victory over Olivet. Bowser is being honored for fourth time in his career.

1/31/11 - Will Bowser
Senior Will Bowser of Midland (Dow HS) is being honored as the MIAA Player of the Week for the third time this season and the fifth time in his career, sharing the honor with Kalamazoo's Joe Prepolec. Bowser scored 72 points in leading Hope to two come-from-behind victories that solidified the Flying Dutchmen's hold on first place in the MIAA race. He poured in a career-high 46 points in a 100-95 overtime win over Kalamazoo, and then added 26 points, including four free throws in the final 30 seconds, as Hope defeated Calvin, 76-70. Bowser made 22 of 39 shots from the field (56 percent), including 9 of 17 3-pointers (53 percent), and 19 of 22 from the free-throw line (86 percent) for the week. He added 10 rebounds and five steals in the two games.

2/7/11 - Will Bowser
Senior Bowser of Midland (Dow HS) is being honored for the second consecutive week and the fourth time this season sharing the recognition with Olivet's Michael McClary. Bowser scored 42 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in leading the first-place Flying Dutchmen to two MIAA victories last week. He scored 18 points and added 10 rebounds and four assists in an 81-64 win over Trine, then came back with 24 points in leading Hope to an 85-71 win over Alma. He made 16 of 30 shots from the field (53 percent), including six 3-pointers, for the week. He has been the MIAA player of the week six times in his career.

2/28/11 - Will Bowser
Senior Will Bowser of Midland (Dow HS), scored 23 points Saturday night in leading the Flying Dutchmen to a 72-67 victory over Calvin in the championship game of the MIAA tournament. He scored 44 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the three tournament games, shooting 51 percent from the field (18 of 35) and 43 percent from 3-point range (6 of 14). Bowser is being honored as Player of the Week for the fifth time this season and seventh time in his career.
