FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS ANNOUNCED


Visitation with the Boerigter family will be Thursday, Oct. 27, from 5-8 p.m. at the Kalamazoo Country Club, 1609 Whites Road, 49008

The funeral will be Saturday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Second Reformed Church in Kalamazoo, 2323 Stadium Drive, 49008.

A Hope College freshman student, Joshua (JP) Boerigter, of Portage, Michigan, was killed Monday (October 24, 2011) night at approximately 8:45 p.m. when he was struck by a freight train near campus. The Holland Department of Public Safety is conducting an investigation.

JP was a third generation Hope College student who graduated from Portage Northern High School in 2011. A cousin Kim is presently a sophomore at Hope.

Survivors include his parents, James (Tish Carr '82) Boerigter '82; brother, Calvin Boerigter; grandparents, George (Sibilla) Boerigter '61 and Lynn (Jane) Carr; aunts and uncles, Daniel (Christina Eisenmann '88) Boerigter '88, Steven (Kathleen Reeder '93) Boerigter, Jennifer Carr '85 LeMieux (Todd) Boerigter, Paul (Doris) Boerigter '50; Delores Boerigter and David (Barbara) Boerigter '59. He was preceded in death by his uncle Jack Boerigter '54.

The Hope College community came together the next morning in Dimnent Memorial Chapel for a service of prayer and reflection. The Chapel overflowed with students, faculty, staff and community members.

The staffs of the offices of Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Development, and Campus Ministries have been serving students since this accident happened.
