The Flying Dutchmen will host the Alma Scots in the traditional Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 13. Kickoff at Holland Municipal Stadium will be 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on 92.7-FM and streamed on the internet.

The Flying Dutchmen renew a rivalry that started in 1919. Hope leads the all-time series 51-31-4, including a 38-15 victory in 2011.

 

The teams have played three common opponents. Both have lost to Illinois Wesleyan and Adrian and each has defeated Olivet.

 

This will be Hope’s Homecoming game, a tradition that started in 1928. Hope has a 49-29-3 all-time advantage in Homecoming games. Alma was last a Homecoming opponent in 2007. The Flying Dutchmen won that game 60-34.

 

Junior tailback Shawn Jackson (Comstock Park/Comstock Park HS) has reached a career milestone. His career rushing total is 1, 774 yards is tenth best on the all-time list. The all-time career leader is Brandon Graham who rushed for 4,362 yards from 1955-77. Over his career Shawn has rushed for over 100 yards in nine games, including twice this season.

 

Stat Watch: Junior quarterback Michael Atwell (Geneseo, Ill/Geneseo HS) tops the MIAA in passing, averaging 228.7 yards per game. He has completed 55% of this passes (120/220), been intercepted eight times and thrown eleven for touchdowns…Freshman punter Dean DeVries (Grand Rapids/Grandville HS) leads the MIAA with an average of 39.3 yards per punt.

 

Five Hope players have caught 10-or-more passes this season – sophomore Taylor Brynaert (Washington/Romeo HS), 34 catches for 427 yards and 4 TDs; junior Vincent Boddy (West Bloomfield/West Bloomfield HS), 22 catches for 301 yards and 4 TDs; junior Connor Parcell (Cadillac/Cadillac HS), 19 catches for 179 yards; senior Brian Lynn (Holland/Holland HS), 15 catches for 98 yards; and junior Christian Subdon (Twin Lake/Whitehall HS), 10 catches for 129 yards and 1 TD.
