Hope College’s Anna Garcia has added to her family’s legacy for displaying great sportsmanship on the court.
The senior from Battle Creek, Michigan (Lakeview HS) has been chosen a two-time recipient of the MIAA’s Sue Little award for outstanding sportsmanship. She also is a All-MIAA first-team player.
Garcia becomes Hope’s second two-time recipient of the Sue Little Award. She joins Audrey Coates as repeat honorees.
Coates claimed the distinction in 1995 and 1997.
Katherine Garcia, Anna’s sister, won the Sue Little award in 2010.
Hope coach Adam Ford said Anna and Katherine Garcia come from a great family.
“Sportsmanship is something their parents have worked on with their kids on for a long time,” Ford said. “The Garcia family has been known for being great sports – just going out and performing, not resorting to any tactics that are gamesmanship or like that.
A Hope player has received the Sue Little Award 16 times.
