Hope College is the runner up in the 2016-17 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Commissioner’s Cup all-sports standings.

Hope’s men’s and women’s teams totaled 130 points to finish second to Calvin’s 135 points.

The final Commissioner’s Cup standings are determined on the basis of each college’s standings in eight of 11 sports for men and eight of eleven sports for women.

This is the third year of a scoring formula that awarded the same number of points for the MIAA champion in each sport, regardless of gender, was used.

The 2016-17 school year saw Hope claim MIAA titles in men’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, women’s cross country, women’s soccer, softball, and women’s tennis.

Hope was MIAA runner-up in football, volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s indoor track & field, women’s swimming and diving, women’s outdoor track & field, men’s lacrosse, and men’s tennis.

The Commissioner’s Cup (All-Sports Award) has been presented since 1934-35. Hope has won the award 36 times, followed by Kalamazoo 15, Albion 13, Calvin 11, and Alma 5.
