Hope College’s Jason Beckman claimed Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week on Monday.

The junior guard from Shelby, Michigan (Shelby HS) was chosen after his record-setting Tournament Most Valuable Player performance at the Grand Rapids Sports Hall Of Fame Classic last weekend in Grand Rapids.

Beckman scored a career-high 44 points — sixth-most by an NCAA Division III player this season — during an 89-83 victory against tournament host Aquinas College on Saturday. He totaled 21 in an 88-61 loss to Cornerstone — the top-ranked NAIA Division II team — on Saturday at Aquinas.

Beckman set tournament records for:
* 44 points in a game, shattering the previous mark of 32
* 28 points in one half (second)
* 14 field goals made in a game
* 13 free throws made in a game
* 1.000 free-throw percentage (13/13)
* 32.5 points per game average

Beckman's 44 points equaled the fourth-most in a game by a Flying Dutchmen player. Floyd Brady scored 44 against Lake Forest, Illinois.

Beckman matched Jim Vander Hill's 56-year-old record for most free throws without a miss. Vander Hill went 13-13 in 1961 against Taylor, Indiana.

Beckman also became Hope's sixth Hall of Fame Classic MVP.
