Twelve Hope College athletic teams have earned the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Team GPA Award for the 2016-17 school year.

The MIAA Team GPA Award is presented to conference athletic teams that achieve a 3.300 or better grade point average for an academic year. Grade point averages are calculated at the end of the academic year.

Four of Hope’s seven MIAA champions during the 2016-17 school year also are MIAA Team GPA Award recipients.

The women’s outdoor track & field team, coached by Kevin Cole, recorded Hope’s top GPA at 3.615. The women’s indoor track & field team also claimed the honor with a 3.599 GPA.

The MIAA champion women’s tennis team, led by interim coach Nate Price, finished with a 3.607 GPA. The men’s tennis team, also led by Price, was recognized with a 3.430 GPA.

The women’s swimming & diving team, coached by John Patnott, and the MIAA champion women’s cross country team, led by coach Mark Northuis, both collected 3.605 GPAs to receive the honor. The Northuis-guided men’s cross country team also earned the award with a 3.370 GPA.

The MIAA champion women’s soccer team, coached by Leigh Sears, earned the distinction with a 3.580 GPA.

The women’s volleyball team, led by coach Becky Schmidt, is honored after posting a 3.490 GPA.

The MIAA champion men’s golf team, coached by Bob Ebels, claimed the award with a 3.480 GPA.

The women’s lacrosse team, guided by coach Kim Vincent, earned the honor with a 3.390 GPA.

The women’s basketball team, led by coach Brian Morehouse, received the award with a 3.370 GPA.
