Hope College’s Abigail Brinks has been chosen the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Swimmer of the Week for the first time in her career.
The senior from Commerce Township, Michigan (Walled Lake Northern HS) is recognized
after helping the Flying Dutch win the Michigan Illinois Quad at Wheaton College (Illinois)
on Saturday.
Brinks clocked the MIAA’s fastest time of the season in the 1,000-meter freestyle
— a winning time of 11 minutes, 7.02 seconds.
Four of the MIAA’s top performances in the 1,000 freestyle came during the meet. Brinks
was two seconds faster than anyone else.
Brinks also anchored Hope’s first-place, 400 freestyle relay and took sixth in the
100 freestyle.
