Barbara Mezeske began teaching in Hope's English department in 1978, and retired in 2011. During that time, she served as a staff member of the Teaching Enhancement Workshop for new faculty, director of faculty mentoring, and coordinator of first-year composition.


Professor Mezeske was most interested in teaching and learning, in faculty development, and assessment. She taught expository writing, cultural heritage courses, and developed courses in African literature course and science writing.

Professor Mezeske won the Janet Andersen Award for excellence in teaching in 1998.
