Carla Vissers, a part-time member of the English faculty at Hope College, has been awarded first place in the 1999 "GSU Review Contest."
She earned the prize for her short story "Jesus
and the Land Mammals." She will receive a $1,000 cash
award, and her story will appear in the Spring issue of "GSU
Review," published by Georgia State University.
Her fiction has appeared in several journals,
including "Mid-American Review" and "Lullwater Review."
Vissers is a 1988 Hope graduate, and received her
MFA in fiction from Western Michigan University in 1998.
She has taught expository writing in the department of
English at Hope since the beginning of the current school
year.
