A presentation at Hope College on Monday, Jan. 7, will examine the relationship between youth violence and the media.
The talk will be delivered on Monday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. in room B50 of the Peale Science Center by Lt. Colonel Dave Grossman, U.S. Army (retired), of Jonesboro, Ark.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
Grossman has contributed to the understanding of the psychological costs of war, the root causes of the current "virus" of violent crime raging around the world, the process of healing the victims of violence in both wartime and peacetime, and the ways in which young adults can be prevented from developing the predisposition for violent behavior. He has been called on as an expert witness for various court cases, the most widely known of which is the Timothy McVeigh Oklahoma City bombing trial.
His visit is sponsored by the college's departments of communication, education, psychology, and sociology and social work. The Peale Science Center is located on College Avenue at 12th Street.
