Hope College will sponsor its annual Arts and Humanities Fair for high school students and faculty on Thursday, Oct. 14.
Hope College faculty and students from the departments of art and art history, dance, English, history, modern and classical languages, music, philosophy, religion and theatre will present lectures and demonstrations that will introduce those attending to the variety of courses in the arts and humanities at Hope College.
Last year, approximately 260 students from 10 high schools were registered.
There will be workshops and lectures on a variety of topics. Among the presentations are "Love: A Short Meditation," "Brats, Snails, and Sushi: What Food Tells Us About Culture," "History's Mysteries," "Acting Action," "Reading the Bible from the Margins," "Hip Hop with Dolores," "Poetry Reading" and "Philosophical Challenges to Religious Faith."
There will be a showcase concert featuring faculty and students of the department of music at 11 a.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel. The concert will be repeated for the general public on Thursday, Oct. 14, at 7:30 p.m., also in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The visiting high school students have also been invited to join the college's students for lunch in the Phelps Hall dining room.
