"Down the Tracks," an exhibit of artwork by 15 past and present Hope College studio art majors, will open at the Krasl Art Center in St. Joseph on Thursday, Nov. 9.
The title "Down the Tracks" refers to the rail connection between Holland and St. Joseph: the railway skims past the De Pree Art Center on Hope's campus and has a stop only a few blocks away from the renovated factory in St. Joseph that will serve as the site for the exhibit. In their space at The Box Factory, located at 1101 Broad Street in St. Joseph, the Krasl Art Center provides exhibition opportunities to a wide variety of artists in the Midwest, with a special emphasis on offering gallery experience to students.
There will be a reception for "Down the Tracks" on Friday, Nov. 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the exhibition will continue through Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007. The public is invited, and admission is free. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional work will be displayed. Recent graduates with art being shown are: Rachel Achtemeier of Dubuque, Iowa; Amanda Berlinski of Worth, Ill.; Ashley Boer of Modesto, Calif.; Katherine Brown of Macomb; Holly Dustin of Contoocook, N.H.; Dustin Fiddler of Ada; and Sandie Timmer of Holland. Current studio art majors being featured are: Alison Bouwer of Holland; Emily Hunt of Holland; Maggie Jetter of Greenville, Ohio; Laura Kinnas of Orland Park, Ill.; Cullen Kronemeyer of Holland; Derek Nevenzel of Holland; Christine Towner of Holland; and Kyle Waterstone of Holland.
