Three seniors will captain the Hope College men’s cross country teams this season: Tim Simon of Richland, Michigan (Gull Lake HS), Zach Zandbergen of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS) and Ben Zank of Midland, Michigan (H.H. Dow HS).

Simon has a double major of chemistry and engineering. He also is minoring in environmental science.

Zandbergen is studying in Hope’s Education Department. His major is English, while his minor is history.

Zank is majoring in accounting.

Hope coach Mark Northuis said that Simon, Zandbergen and Zank all, in addition to their running experiences, bring a breadth of leadership skills to their roles as captains.

“I look forward to their helping to pass on the strong tradition of excellence that the Hope College Cross Country program has attained,” Northuis said. “They are a gifted group of scholar-athletes.”

Hope opens the 2014 season on August 30 when it hosts the 49th Vanderbilt Invitational at Ridge Point Church.
