As the end of August approaches, it might seem that Hope Summer Repertory Theatre would be packing away the sets, lights and costumes, but HSRT already has eyes on the summer of 2019.

The company will be presenting six productions for audiences of all ages next summer, including an American classic musical, a taste of Shakespeare, a powerful drama of the Civil War and a musical whodunit mystery. The productions are “West Side Story,” “Shakespeare in Love,” “truth: The Testimonial of Sojourner Truth,” “Murder for Two,” “The Old Man and The Old Moon,” and “Elephant and Piggie’s ‘We are in a Play!’” HSRT announced the upcoming season at the closing performance of “Godspell” on August 8.

Some of the roles for next season have already been cast, and audiences might recognize some of the actors on stage. Ben Lohrberg (Jesus in “Godspell”) and Sara Ornelas (Tribe in “Godspell,” Ensemble in “The Wiz”) will be portraying Tony and Maria in “West Side Story.”

The 2019 season will begin during the week of June 7.

Early-bird season tickets are currently available at 2018 prices, and may be purchased through the ticket office in the Events and Conferences Office located downtown in the Anderson-Werkman Financial Center (100 E. Eighth St.). The office is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be called at 616-395-7890.

Established at Hope College in 1972, Hope Summer Repertory Theatre is West Michigan’s premiere professional theatre company and produces plays and educational programs of the highest professional standards that address the needs of, and enhance the quality of life for, Hope College and the community. The productions are presented across the summer months in venues including the college’s DeWitt Center main theatre, DeWitt Center studio theatre and Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts. Lenny Banovez is completing his first season as HSRT’s artistic director and Anne Bakker serves as managing director.
