Members of the campus community are invited to participate in the SweetHeart Balle, a historical social balle, on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Maas Center auditorium.

Admission is free.

The Balle, hosted by the college’s Historical Social Dance class, is a Valentine- and 19th century-themed dance. No experience is necessary and lessons will be given. Some of the instructed dances include the waltz, polka and quadrille. Costumes are encouraged.

With Glen Morningstar as caller accompanied by live musicians, attendees will be prompted through basic dance patterns. The Historical Social Dance class will provide a base of experienced participants to help guide those new to historical social dances. Dances learned will be those of the 19th century ballroom, including the waltz, polka, quadrille, English Country Dance and other longways dances such as the contredance and reel. The ability to walk, a willing mind, and an interest in a fun, kinesthetic historical experience is all that is necessary for attendees to participate in this unique educational experience.

The Maas Center is located at 264 Columbia Ave., between 10th and 13th streets.
