Building Health and Safety
Hope’s buildings play a key role in the overall health and safety of Hope faculty, staff, students and visitors.
Asbestos Building Reports
Full building asbestos surveys were started in 2005 for Hope buildings and properties that were constructed before 1980. Asbestos building survey information were generated from inspection data collected by certified environmental asbestos consultants. Floor plans and room numbers in these reports may have changed and asbestos-containing materials may also have been abated or encapsulated since the surveys were initially conducted.
Should any material be encountered during maintenance or custodial activities that is not identified within the log or report, work should not proceed, and a sample of the material must be reviewed, collected and analyzed by an accredited lab prior to disturbing the material to determine whether or not it contains asbestos.
Please contact the Occupational Health and Fire Safety Office at 616.395.7999 if you have any questions regarding the survey data listed, or need a material analyzed.

If asbestsos-containing materials reside in the building, the log lists the locations and quantities of where the asbestos-containing material resides. Please remember that floor rooms and floor plans may have changed since the survey was initially conducted, and asbestos materials may have been abated since the survey.
