Voice

We provide opportunities for you to exercise the God-given gift of the human voice through performance and language study.

The Vocal Area is committed to the maximum improvement of each student within the context of vocal health and efficiency, and with regard to the curricular goals of each student. All voice instructors at Hope College are active members of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).

Jung Woo KimMany of our majors choose to couple musical theater or a language to accompany a performance track. In addition, several choral ensembles explore a range of literature, from Renaissance to modern a cappella hits.

Courses in English/Italian, German and French diction are offered for voice students. During the German semester, clinicians expert in the German language and the genre of the Lied (German art song) conduct master classes for students enrolled in the course. The culminating project is a Liederabend at which students perform the German Lieder they have learned during the semester.

Since the year 2000, 100% of our vocal performance majors wishing to pursue graduate degrees have been accepted into masters and doctoral programs at the following schools:
