HOLLAND -- A total of 100 Hope College students have been
named to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA)
Academic Honor Roll for the 1997-98 school year.

The MIAA each year honors students at MIAA member colleges
who achieve in both the classroom and in athletic competition. A
student needs to be a letterwinner in a varsity sport and
maintain a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the entire school
year.

Five students had the distinction of being named to the
honor roll four consecutive years. They are Stacy Brown (cross
country) of Laingsburg, Steve DeVrieze (tennis) of Midland, Tim
Franklyn (cross country and track) of Wayne, N.J., Sarah Frego
(softball) of Holland and Joseph Zupancic (swimming) of Wyoming.

Twelve students lettered in two sports while achieving the
high acadmeic standard. They are: Amy Brower of Hamilton
(Hamilton HS), volleyball and basketball; Christie Eding of
Hamilton (Hamilton), volleyball and basketball); Tim Franklyn of
Wayne, N.J., (cross country and track); Kim Grotenhuis of
Hamilton (Hamilton HS), volleyball and softball; Jeffrey Kauffman
of Minnetonka, Minn. (Minnetonka HS), cross country and track);
Megan Powers of Jackson (Lumen Christi HS), cross country and
track; Matt Putnam of Greenville (Greenville HS), football and
track; Stephen Rabuck of Myerstown, Pa. (Eastern Lebanon County
HS), soccer and track; Ellen Schultz of Maple City (Maple City-
Glen Lake HS), cross country and track; Jannah Thompson of Port
Sanilac (Bullock Creek HS), cross country and track; Joe Veldman
of Sawyer (Three Oaks-River Valley HS), cross country and track;
and Lisa Vredevoodg of Grandville (Calvin Christian HS).
