Carla Vissers, a part-time member of the English faculty at Hope College, has won the fiction prize in "The Florida Review" Editors' Awards for 1999.

Carla Vissers, a part-time member of the English faculty at Hope College, has won the fiction prize in "The Florida Review" Editors' Awards for 1999.

          Her story, "The Muscle Suit," will appear in the
  summer issue of "The Florida Review," which is published at
  the University of Central Florida in Orlando.  She also
  receives a cash prize of $500.
          Earlier this year, she won first place in the 1999
  "GSU Review Contest" for another short story, "Jesus and the
  Land Mammals."  Her fiction has appeared in several
  journals, including "Mid-American Review" and "Lullwater
  Review."
          Vissers is a 1988 Hope graduate, and received her
  MFA in fiction from Western Michigan University in 1998.
  She has taught expository writing in the department of
  English at Hope since the beginning of the 1998-99 school
  year.
