The Hope College Symphonette will return from its tour of Canada to perform at home on Friday, March 30, at 8 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The concert is also part of this year's March Festival concerts happening throughout the city.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
High schools, middle schools and elementary schools are particularly encouraged to attend and support the March Festival.
The concert will feature the music performed by Symphonette while on its March 17-20 tour in Canada. It will open with "Soirees Musicales: a Suite of Five Movements from Rossini," by Benjamin Britten. The second piece, Johann Sebastian Bach's "Concerto in D minor for Violin and Oboe," will feature students Sarah Herman, oboe, and Paul Jackson, violin.
The percussion section of Symphonette will be featured in a piece called "The Worried Drummer," by Adolph Schreiner. In it, the percussionists will be "dancing" from instrument to instrument, at times playing several at once. The strings will be featured in a performance of the "Elegie" from Peter Ilyich Tschaikowsky's "Serenade in C major, Opus 48."
Concluding the program will be "Symphony No. 4 in A major, op. 90," by Felix Mendelssohn.
