Planning of the third annual Dance Marathon, to benefit DeVos Children's Hospital, is underway at Hope College.

The first major fundraising effort in preparation for the marathon will be held on Friday, Nov. 2. An art auction featuring more than 50 pieces of art will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the auditorium of the Maas Center, located on Columbia Avenue at 11th Street.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The auction will feature works from aspiring and established artists of the community who have donated their time and effort. The most exciting element of the auction will be the many pieces of art that were created by children who are currently being treated, or have been treated, at DeVos Children's Hospital.

The auction is in its second year and the planning committee of Dance Marathon hopes to surpass the $1,800 that were raised last year at the auction.

All proceeds for the event will go to Dance Marathon. Dance Marathon is a completely student-run fundraiser, that in conjunction, with Children's Miracle Network, helps to raise funds for DeVos Children?s Hospital in Grand Rapids. Last year the students at Hope College helped to the make the 24-hour marathon a huge success--over $37,000 was donated to the hospital. The dollars that are raised are unique, because every cent goes to benefit children treated in West Michigan.

This year's Dance Marathon will be held Friday- Saturday, March 8-9, 2002.
