Hope College will present its annual Concerto/Aria Concert on Friday, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The concert is presented each January to highlight students from Hope College who have successfully passed the audition process.

The Hope College Symphonette will open the event with the Overture to the opera "Semiramide" by Giocchino Rossini.

Pianist Sara Bolkema of Flushing, a junior in music education, from the studio of Mansoon Han Kim, will perform the Piano Concerto No. 2 Op. 102 by Dmitri Shostakovich. Cellist Nicholas Toben of Troy, a senior in music performance, from the studio of Richard Piippo, will perform the Cello Concerto in B minor by Antonin Dvorak. Vocalist Abbie Matthews of Fort Wayne, Ind., a sophomore in music performance, from the studio of Margaret Kennedy- Dygas, will perform the aria from the opera "Il Seraglio" titled "Durch Zartlichkeit und Schmeichein."

Violinist Titus Munteanu of Romania, a junior in music performance, from the studio of Mihai Craioveanu, will perform the Concerto in D minor by Jean Sibelius. Cellists Hannah Schroeder of Holland, a sophomore in music education, and Octavia Reese of Detroit, a sophomore in classical studies and music, from the studio of Richard Piippo, will perform the Concerto for Two Cellos in G minor, by Antonio Vivaldi. Organist Heidi Dykema of Grand Rapids, a junior in music performance, from the studio of Huw Lewis, will perform the Symphony No. 1 for Organ and Orchestra.

The judges this year were Julianne VanWyngaarden and Dale Schreimer from Grand Valley State University, John Scholten from West Ottawa High School and David Holland from Interlochen Music Academy.

Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on College Avenue at 12th Street.
