The campus community is invited to the events.
A student panel discussion, "Who Am I? Asian Americans Exploring Their Cultural Identity," will take place on Monday, April 5, at 4 p.m. in the Maas Center. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Annie Dandavati, associate professor of political science. Student speakers will include junior Shelly Cooper of Holt; senior Jennifer Jourdan of Nobleville, Ind.; senior Caleb Sheng of Brighton; senior Barry Teshima of Ludington; and freshman Leah Wicander of Mount Pleasant.
Guest speaker Takashi Saigo will deliver an address on Tuesday, April 6, at 7 p.m. in the Maas Center. Saigo is the great-grandson of Saigo Takamori, samurai leader of the rebellion in Japan that inspired the 2003 film "The Last Samurai."
The Asian dinner will be featured on Wednesday, April 7, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Phelps Dining Hall. The event will feature a variety of dishes and will include a showing of the film "Bend It Like Beckham."
A "Karaoke Night" including bubble tea and pizza has been scheduled for Thursday, April 8, from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in the basement of Scott Hall.
The Asian Awareness Week activities are sponsored by Hope's Asian Perspective Association (HAPA). The presentation by Takashi Saigo is co-sponsored by the college's Japan Club.
Phelps Hall and the Maas Center are adjacent to one another on Columbia Avenue at 11th Street. Scott Hall is located at 113 E. 13th St., between College and Columbia avenues.
