The Hope College music faculty will perform the first recital of the new school year in their annual series on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 3 p.m. in Wichers Auditorium of Nykerk Hall of Music.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The concert will be a mix of classical and jazz, beginning with a flute performance by Julie Sooy. She will open the concert with the "Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano." Pianist Steve Talaga, bassist Charlie Hoats, and drummer Eric Sooy will accompany her.
The second half of the recital will feature compositions by Steve Talga. Talga was winner of the "Down Beat Magazine" Award for Jazz Composition in 1994, and in 1996 received an honorable mention in "Billboard Magazine's" songwriting contest. Hoats and Eric Sooy will perform with Talaga.
Nykerk Hall of Music is located on the former 12th Street between College and Columbia avenues.
