Hope College will sponsor its annual Arts and Humanities Fair for high school students and faculty on Thursday, Oct. 6.
Hope College faculty and students from the departments of art and art history, dance, English, history, modern and classical languages, music, philosophy and theatre will present lectures and demonstrations that will introduce those attending to the variety of courses in the arts and humanities at Hope. Students and their teachers from high schools from throughout the state are anticipated.
There will be workshops and lectures on a variety of topics. Among the presentations are ""Exploring the Art of Costume Design," "The Klan in Michigan," "The Elegiac Poems of Phillis Wheatley and Tupac Shakur," "Brats, Snails, and Sushi: What Food Tells Us about Culture," and "One Soldier's Civil War: Ambrose Bierce."
There will be a showcase concert featuring faculty and students of the department of music at 11 a.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel. The concert will be repeated for the general public on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m., also in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The visiting high school students have also been invited to join the college's students for lunch in the Phelps Hall dining room.
