In conjunction with an upcoming concert in Holland, Brazilian guitarist Paulinho
Garcia will run a masterclass for Hope College students and give a short performance.
The masterclass will take place on Thursday, April 13, at 9:30 a.m., with a short
performance and discussion following at 11 a.m. Both events will take place in Wichers
Auditorium of Nykerk Hall of Music.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and living in Chicago since 1979, Garcia has performed at renowned jazz festivals and clubs around the world. He recently performed at the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore, as well as the First International Jazz Festival in Singapore. He has toured Eastern Europe twice with singer Grazyna Auguscik.
He and saxophonist Greg Fishman, were awarded the 2003 Chicago's Best Jazz Entertainer Award.
Garcia is also performing with vibraphonist Jim Cooper on Wednesday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the Holland Area Arts Council. Tickets for the concert are $7. The Holland Arts Council is located at 151 E. 8th St.
Nykerk Hall of Music is located along the former 12th Street between College and Columbia avenues.
