Members of the Hope College women's golf team escaped serious injury when their van was involved in an accident in Allegan County on Saturday morning (Oct. 14, 2006)
The team was on its way to the championship tournament of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) at the Bedford Valley Country Club near Battle Creek.
The accident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on M-89 east of Plainwell in AlleganCounty. Apparently a car crossed in front of the van at an intersection. The van was being driven by Coach Eva Dean Folkert. The accident is being investigated by the Allegan County Sheriff Department.
Coach Folkert and one of the six players in the van suffered minor injuries. They were released after receiving treatment at the PippCommunityHospital in Plainwell.
The team returned to Holland. They did not compete in the season-ending tournament.
