Career services professionals from 28 highly selective liberal arts colleges and universities will gather at Hope College next week to plan how best to serve their institutions' students.
Hope will host the Liberal Arts Careers NetWORK (LACN) Summit on Wednesday-Friday, June 13-15. The annual event, which rotates among the LACN's 28 member institutions, features two days of committee meetings, networking and planning between career services professionals, with meetings with employers on the final day.
The Liberal Arts Career NetWORK was founded in 1996 to develop and sustain innovative technological career resources and services that give students a competitive edge in the global marketplace. The LACN helps students at liberal arts colleges find internship and job opportunities, and provides a resource to help employers to find the best candidates for their openings.
The LACN provides employers with a variety of services that enhance an organizations' ability to market job vacancies, evaluate candidates and locate interns and trainees for entry-level positions. Employers can access a pool of 60,000 highly competitive students.
One of the products developed by LACN is a shared consortium database of 20,000 summer jobs and internships accessible in a password protected database. Other innovative tools produced by LACN members include "Spotlight" Web sites which contain a wealth of industry, intercultural and graduate school resources for liberal arts college students.
In addition to Hope, colleges and universities that participate in LACN include: Amherst College, Bates College, Bowdoin College, Brandeis University, Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges, Carleton College, Clark University, Colby College, Colgate University, College of the Holy Cross, College of Wooster, Connecticut College, Hamilton College, Hartwick College, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Macalester College, Middlebury College, Mount Holyoke College, Oberlin College, St. Lawrence University, Skidmore College, Trinity College, Union College, Vassar College, Washington and Lee University, Wesleyan University and Wellesley College.
