The Hope Summer Repertory Theatre (HSRT) continues its 36th season with "The Hypochondriac," opening June 22 in the DeWitt Theatre.
"The Hypochondriac" is a hilariously funny play about a demanding, old miser with numerous medical problems, a man that is so impossible, that even his daughter and maid often hide from him. To cover his vast medical bills, the father promises his already love struck daughter to an unknown wealthy young doctor whose father and uncle are also doctors.
Adapted from Jean Baptise Moliere's 400 year old play, "The Imaginary Invalid," William Moering presents a world premiere of "The Hypochondriac." Moliere's satire was set in 1870, and written to express his lack of confidence in doctors and to poke fun of people that depended on them so greatly.
William Moering is a former professional actor, spending his first season with HSRT this summer. In addition to "The Hypochondriac," Moering has also written a play called "Trojan Pie," produced in Hollywood, and "Joyful Partaking," a film being broadcast in Europe on HBO.
Featuring Lucius Houghton, an Equity Guest Artist and one of the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival's founding members, as the hypochondriac, and Emily Kitchens as his daughter; this creatively adapted play will keep you on your toes.
"The Hypochondriac" continues this summer with shows at 8 p.m. on June 23, 27, 29; July 7, 10, 11, 12, and 18.
