Dr. David Grimshaw of Michigan State University will address issues of musicians’ health through the lecture “Integrative Medicine and the Performing Arts” on Thursday, March 28, at 6 p.m. at Hope College in Winants Auditorium of Graves Hall.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The lecture will provide information to future medical professionals about how to approach the medical care of musicians and other performers, while addressing how to prevent injuries and how to seek competent medical help for performers.
After the lecture, Grimshaw will facilitate an experiential workshop for interested musicians. He will address individual concerns for several musicians, as well as draw out general concerns for players and teachers.
Grimshaw is a clinical associate professor at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the physician member/medical director of the Healthy Musicianship Team at Michigan State University College of Music. Co-author of “Music Education and Performing Arts Medicine: The State of the Alliance,” he teaches an undergraduate course at MSU titled “Healthy Musicianship.” He also is co-owner of the Center for Integrative Medicine in Okemos.
