Volunteer
Step Up academic coaches play a crucial role with the Step Up program.
Volunteer academic coaches are matched with Step Up middle school students and commit to meeting one-on-one or in small groups during scheduled mentoring sessions (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3–4:30 p.m, 4–5:30 p.m. or both!). By volunteering to work with at-risk youth, our coaches are providing a vital, caring, relationship that encourages each student’s potential for success.
The commitment is for a minimum of one semester, but academic coaches are encouraged to commit to one year if able. Many of our coaches come back year after year because they truly enjoy it!
Training for Step Up coaches will take place early October (date TBD) from 3–4 p.m. or 4–5 p.m. There will also be a joint CASA and Step Up training with the Children’s Advocacy Center on (date TBD) from 3:30–5 p.m. in Graves Hall Winant’s Auditorium. All trainings count toward field placement hours. More information will be sent to coaches in late September/early October.
