Policies and Procedures

A common phrase used during an active member's time in Greek Life is, “You are always wearing your letters.” Being in a Greek organization simply means being in something bigger than yourself.

The years that are spent in Greek Life are meant to be a time for personal growth, friendship, service and social experiences. The Office of Student Life expects each Greek member, whether new or active, to feel safe and act in a respectable manner. Because of this, a number of policies and procedures have been put in place to ensure that those in Greek Life have a positive, safe experience.

Advisors

Just like every other student club and organization on campus, each sorority and fraternity is required to have a faculty/staff advisor.

Event Planning

The Office of Student Life recognizes that Greek organizations put on various events throughout the academic year. Whether events are for service or social purposes, Greek members are expected to uphold the planning guidelines established by the Panhellenic and Interfraternity councils.

Greek Judicial Board

The Greek Judicial Board (J-Board) is a group who enforce the policies and procedures set in place by the Office of Student Life. It is comprised of students from various organizations and allows students and Greek organizations to be aware of college policies and their impact on the campus and themselves.

Greek Orientation

Every new member who has been recruited by an organization goes through an educational process known as Greek Orientation. This is a time where new members are able to learn about the organization's values, history and active members.

Interfraternity/Panhellenic Councils

There are two primary governing boards for sororities and fraternities on Hope's campus. Each council is comprised of three members from each organization.

Risk Management

Safety is a top priority in Greek Life. No matter where you go or what you're doing, it's important to be cautious. The Risk Management Policy was put in place by the Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils to ensure that every Greek-sanctioned event is safe and enjoyable for all members.
