Traveling to Holland, Michigan
  • The nearest commercial airport is Gerald R Ford International in Grand Rapids (GRR), 40 minutes from campus, with most major airlines providing daily routes to 30+ non-stop destinations. GRR is served by Uber and taxi services and multiple rental car companies.
  • Shuttles will be provided for return transportation from Holland to GRR.
  • Holland is also served by Amtrak (HOM, walking distance from campus)
  • Holland is less than 90 minutes from South Bend and Lansing, and less than three hours from Chicago (ORD, MDW) and Detroit (DTW).
Lodging
  • RMC 2026 will meet in Hope College’s newly renovated Haworth Hotel and Conference Center. Hotel rooms will be available for approximately $200/night.
  • Two other major hotel brands are located walking distance to campus. More info to come on these options.
  • A dormitory option without air conditioning and with common hall bathrooms will be available for approximately $50/night single or $30 per person/night double occupancy.
  • A variety of bed & breakfasts, AirBNB and VRBO, as well as several lower cost chain hotels, are available within a few miles of campus.
  • Breakfast will be provided at the meeting each morning. Lunches and dinners will be on your own with options for cafeteria dining on campus or a wide range of restaurants a short walk off campus.
  • There will be a conference banquet and an excursion — details forthcoming.
Attire
Expected attire is “professional chemistry conference casual” (i.e., shorts, nice jeans or khakis, casual dresses, polo shirts or blouses or “institution-logo-wear” or dorky chemistry t-shirts). Many of us will rejoice to wear sandals as we take time away from closed toed shoes mandates in our labs! You should be on the “nicer” side of this continuum when you are presenting. It will be summertime in Michigan, but you should check the forecasted weather before you pack. Consider bringing along a sweater or fleece for overly air-conditioned conference spaces.
Conference Ethics & Conduct
The Reaction Mechanisms Conference, an independent conference founded in 1946, has a long-standing tradition of providing a venue for the presentation of stimulating science and lively discussion in a welcoming environment. To best facilitate the exchange of ideas, the Governing Board of the Reaction Mechanisms Conference expects conference participants to exhibit at all times respectful, professional and ethical behavior. The RMC aligns with the American Chemical Society’s Code of Conduct. Furthermore, the RMC also aligns with the American Chemical Society’s statement on Diversity, Equity Inclusion, and Respect.
