Teams and individual students took home honors following the 29th annual Albert E. Lampen Mathematics Contest and Conference, held at Hope College on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The contest consists of a 30-question, multiple choice test administered in a 90-minute time span. A total of 82 high school-level students from 11 schools participated.

Winning teams in class A, B, C and D were determined by adding the scores of each school's top four individual scorers. In addition, first- through seventh- place prizes were awarded to the top individual students.

Okemos High School was the top team in Class A, Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School was the top team in Class B, Covenant Christian High School of Grand Rapids was the top team in Class C and Black River Public School of Holland was the top team in Class D.

In the individual competition, Bryan Cody of Williamston High School and Shuyu Wang of Okemos High School tied for first place. Nam-Kyu Cho of Okemos High School and Jordan Marcusse of West Ottawa High School tied for third place. Kelly Pyle of Zeeland High School placed fifth, and Brian Wagner of West Ottawa High School placed sixth.

In a five-way tie for seventh place were: Ben Briggs of Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School, Kurt Pyle of Zeeland High School, Noah Smith of Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School, Carrie Sun of Okemos High School and Dan Visscher of Grand Rapids Christian High School.
