Work choreographed by Hope College students will be featured during dance concerts on Monday-Tuesday, Nov. 24-25, and Monday, Dec. 1.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The concerts on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 24 and 25, will take place at 8 p.m. in the Knickerbocker Theatre. The concert on Monday, Dec. 1, will take place at 7 p.m. in the main dance studio in the Dow Center.

The highlight of the Nov. 24-25 concerts at the Knickerbocker will be ""Them Apples," choreographed and performed by the 10 students in the college's dance production class. After three months of creative effort under the direction of Ray Tadio, the students have choreographed a work that explores rhythm in a variety of media and challenges pre-conceived notions of what is considered rhythm and music.

In addition to the opportunity to choreograph and perform, the dance production class provides students with the opportunity to learn about the production process, with hands-on experience in the areas of costuming, lighting, sound, sets, marketing and managing.

The students in the class this year are: senior Katie Budris of Libertyville, Ill.; senior Kathleen Davenport of Gainesville, Fla.; junior Dawn Flandermeyer of St. Charles, Mo.; junior Jeffrey Kurtze of Elkhart, Ind.; junior Jessica Mumford of Kalamazoo; senior Erin Rupert of Traverse City; junior Dolores Sanchez of Whiting, Ind.; sophomore Sona Smith of Chicago, Ill.; senior Kara Wilson of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and junior Jessi Yokas of Oelwein, Iowa.

Also during the Nov. 24-25 concerts, senior Lindsay Townsend of Lombard, Ill., will present a modern trio titled "To Be Free" about the frustrations and confusions in youthful love. She has prepared the piece through an independent study in advanced dance composition, supervised by Maxine DeBruyn, chair of the department of dance. Townsend notes that her independent study "has been an educational experience. It's great because I'm being coached in my choreography, which will help me when I student teach."

At the Dow studio on Monday, Dec. 1, freshman Tara Franklin of Orlando, Fla., will present a work that features six freshman dancers exploring the concept of bird movement through African dance. The concert at the Dow Center will feature other pieces as well.

The Knickerbocker Theatre is located at 86 E. Eighth St. in downtown Holland. The Dow Center is located on 13th Street at Columbia Avenue.
