Awards for scholastic achievement and service have been presented to graduating Hope College seniors.

The awards honor students for achievement in specific areas of study and service. The students were recognized during the college's annual Honors Convocation on Thursday, April 27.

Sandra E. Deitz of Grand Rapids received the American Association of University Women Award.

The M. Harold Mikle Prize for Communication was presented to Erin L'Hotta of Winfield, Ill., and Amy Lynn O'Connell of Westfield, N.Y. Courtney A. Clum of Howell received the Southland Medal (Gerrit H. Albers Gold Medal), which is awarded to the outstanding woman of the senior class.

The winner of the John Schouten Award for the outstanding female student-athlete was Bria J. Ebels of Holland. The Otto Vander Velde All-Campus Award was presented to Kurtis F. Blohm of Wilmington, Ohio.

The AATF Outstanding Senior in French Award was presented to Holly A. Dustin of Coontoocook, N.H. The Paul G. Fried Prize in International Education was presented to Sayaka Nakatsuji of Holland. Joseph D. Turbessi of Nunica was honored for Music Teachers National Association Student Achievement Recognition. NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarships for Careers in Athletics were awarded to Kelsey M. Guisbert of Farmington and 2005 graduate Emily Schlitz of Potterville. Technos International Prizes were awarded to Sarah Quesada Lubbers of Athens, Ga., and Queretaro, Mexico, and Nixon O. Omollo of Nairobi, Kenya.

Amanda E. Berlinski of Worth, Ill., received the Herman Miller Art Award.

John R. Rodstrom of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Natalie R. Sheldon of Gaston, Ore., received the Biology Service Award. The Patterson Memorial Prize in Biology was presented to Jamin M. Dreyer of Holland.

The American Institute of Chemists Award was presented to Katie L. Hinkle of Cadillac and Natalie L. Hoogeveen of Orange City, Iowa. Hope Chemistry Senior Awards for Research were presented to Corissa L. Lamphear of Grand Rapids; Mary J. VerHeulen of Grand Rapids; Tyson R. Vonderfecht of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and David L. Weatherly of Shelby Township. The Almon T. Godfrey Prizes in Chemistry were presented to Julie A. Pollock of Midland and Darren B. Van Beek of Tinley Park, Ill.

Anna D. VanWyck of Mears was presented with the Lambda Pi Eta Book Award in communication.

The Boundy Computer Science Award was received by James C. Boerkoel of Fennville; and James D. Post of Bloomfield Hills was the winner of the Computer Science Senior Prize.

Brian R. Hammer of Williamsburg and Ashley N. TenHaken of Melbourne, Fla., were awarded the Allan C. Kinney Memorial Award, which is presented to the outstanding graduating seniors majoring in economics and business administration. Laura A. Borovsky of Livonia received the Award for Outstanding Accounting Student. Scott A. Travis of Unionville received the Economics, Management and Accounting Faculty Recognition Award in Memory of C. Kendrick Gibson. Shawn M. Evers of Cedar Lake, Ind., received the "Wall Street Journal" Award.

Lisa M. Wisniewski of Arlington Heights, Ill., was the winner of the Marguerite E. Kinkema Special Education Award, while the winners of the Egbert Winter Education Awards were Rachel S. Cline of Grandville and Andrew S. Rienstra of Grandville. Catherine Morrison '89 Senior Science Education Awards were presented to Ashley M. Tillman of Birmingham (elementary) and Jamin M. Dreyer of Holland (secondary), while the Catherine Morrison '89 Senior Math Education Award was presented to Lisa M. Wisniewski of Arlington Heights, Ill.

The Erika Brubaker '92 Awards for Proficiency in Literature were presented to Jessica M. Bodtke of Grand Junction and Kathryn A. Randa of Naperville, Ill. The Clarence De Graaf English Award was presented to Rachel A. Schutte Baird of Traverse City. The Sandrene Schutt Awards for Proficiency in Literature were presented to Emily J. Howard of Columbus, Ohio, and Julie A. Lancaster of Troy.

Tulip City Gem and Mineral Club Award was presented to Emily A. Timmons of Kalamazoo.

The Kent Medical Foundation Award was presented to Joseph H. Pitcher of Gowen.

The Ray De Young History Prizes were awarded to Emily J. Nelson of Mount Morris, Ill., and Lynnae E. Ruberg of Brighton, while Abigail J. VanKempen of Holland received the Miles Award in Law.

Kelsey M. Guisbert of Farmington received the Lawrence "Doc" Green Award in Athletic Training. Bria J. Ebels of Holland and Gregory L. Immink of Hudsonville received Dorothy and Russell Siedentop Awards, presented to outstanding members of the basketball teams. Recipients of the William and Mabel Vanderbilt Sr. Family Awards in kinesiology were Kyle R. Barnes of Eastport; Jamie J. Elliott of Mount Morris; Stephanie R. Koenke of Troy; and Amy L. Mc Ewan of Canajoharie, N.Y.

Daniela Banu of Bucharest, Romania, received the Albert E. Lampen Mathematics Prize.

Students honored for achievement in the study of a foreign language included Angela K. Dykhuis of Holland, who received the Eta Sigma Phi Book Prize. Aaron D. Raatjes of Mokena, Ill., received the Laura Alice Boyd Memorial Award in German, and Jennica A. Skoug of Portage was awarded Barbara E. Geeting Memorial Award in German.

The Delta Omicron Senior Honor Award in music was presented to Aaron D. Hawn of Midland. Derek P. Brown of Lakeview and Joseph D. Turbessi of Nunica received the Robert W. Cavanaugh Senior Music Awards. The winner of the Roger Rietberg Chapel Choir Award was Sarah K. Blankenship of Hoffman Estates, Ill. Named to the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honorary were Sarah K. Blankenship of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; Derek P. Brown of Lakeview; Erika L. Byker of Hudsonville; Aaron D. Hawn of Midland; Amy E. Kurkiewicz of Rochester Hills; Abigail B. The Christian Service Awards in nursing were presented to Heather N. Amundson of Eau Claire, Wis., and Heather N. Lam of Portage. The Senior Nursing Award was given to Megan J. Mulder of Haslett, and the Miriam Joyce Van Eyl Award was presented to Kimberly A. Brumley of Grand Rapids. Sigma Theta Tau nursing recognition was awarded to Heather N. Amundson of Eau Claire, Wis.; Christine E. Blews of Dewitt; Kimberly A. Brumley of Grand Rapids; Karie De Young of Hudsonville; Lindsay J. Fach of Rose City; Andrea E. The Charles E. Lake Memorial Prize in Philosophy was presented to William R. Rekshan of Marquette.

The Douwe B. Yntema Prize in physics and engineering was awarded to Patrick J. Mears of Des Plaines, Ill. Courtney A. Clum of Howell received the Senior Engineering Prize. The VanPutten Engineering Design Prize was awarded to Nathaniel S. Makowski of Detroit.

Recipients of the James Dyke van Putten Political Science Prizes were Rachel Schutte Baird of Traverse City; Emily J. Nelson of Mount Morris, Ill.; Kurt A. Pyle of Zeeland; and Rebecca A. Rooy of Shelby.

Nichole P. Ellis of Rochester, N.H., received the Biblical Studies Award, while Rachel D. Cochrane of Watertown, Wis., was presented with the Sloan-Stegeman Mission Prize. William J. Flavin of Palos Heights, Ill., and Kimberly I. Hauser of St. Charles, Mo., were awarded the John Richard Vander Wilt Awards in religion. The Verhey Award for Excellence in Scholarship was presented to Shea N. Tuttle of Aurora, Ill.

Jeanette Gustafson Memorial Gifts in social work were presented to Lauren E. Lochner of Troy; Cathy A. Martyn of Wheaton, Ill.; and Bethany A. Metters of Bloomfield Hills. Audra A. Jobin of Spring Lake received both the Senior Sociology Award and the Senior Social Work Award.

The recipient of the Theatre Department Senior Prize was Kendra L. Stock of St. Charles, Ill. Sandra E. Deitz of Grand Rapids and Eric M. Van Tassell of Spencer, Iowa, received the Brad Williams Memorial Awards.
