The dream of establishing an orphanage in Rwanda is now a reality thanks to the support of the Hope College community.

In place are three homes to house, teach, and feed childrens and quarters for house parents. The program is now serving 17 children who live in the village and 13 others who walk in from the surrounding area. There is also a program director who is Rwandan and has considerable experience supervising this type of project.

Current Hope student Daniel Owens Rocky River, Ohio and recent graduates Rebecca Curry '12 and Andrew Wierda '11 were instrumental in developing this program, according to Alfredo Gonzales, Associate Prvost andf Dean for International and Multicultural Education Owens is presently a Mellon Scholar serving in Kigali, Rwanda.
