10 Under 10 Award

Hope College will honor 10 young alumni with its annual “10 Under 10 Awards” on Friday, Oct. 21, during the college’s “One Big Weekend: Homecoming and Family Weekend” celebration.

They will be honored during a reception on Friday, Oct. 21, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at CityVū Events on the fifth floor of CityFlatsHotel.  They will also participate in a panel discussion earlier in the day on Friday, Oct. 21, at 3 p.m. in Winants Auditorium of Graves Hall, during which they will share perspective based on their educational and professional journeys.

The public is invited to both events.  Admission is free.

The alumni being honored are:  Sara Duhr ’12 Bazydlo. licensed clinical social worker at John D. Dingell VA Medical Center; Eden Collins ’12, assistant professor of art at Stephen F. Austin State University; Josh Cooper ’17, senior advisor – strategic communications – Val Demings for U.S. Senate; Allix Hutchison ’17, first grade teacher at Hudsonville Public Schools; Alecia Ivery ’13, Midwest lead consultant and national trainer at The Center for Healing and Justice Through Sport; Nicholas Leonard ’12, art and design education visiting lecturer at Northern Illinois University; Isabel Morris ’15, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at New Mexico Tech; Samantha Poon ’15, attorney, Department of Homeland Security; Marco Tori ’12, epidemic intelligence service officer, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention / LCDR, United States Public Health Service; and Alexandra Vroom ’19, registered nurse at Trinity Health – St Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor

The “10 Under 10 Awards” honor emerging leaders who are making significant contributions by living out their callings; engaged in the local and global community through professional and/or volunteer involvement; and use their education to think about important issues with wisdom and clarity, communicate effectively to bridge boundaries that divide human communities and act as agents of hope living faithfully into their vocations.  Designed for alumni who are within 10 years of graduation, they are presented by the Hope College Alumni Association.

The annual awards which debuted in the fall of 2018, succeeded the Hope College Alumni Association’s Young Alumni Award program that ran from 2007 through 2017.  Recipients are chosen by a committee of Alumni Board members, faculty and staff from among nominations made by members of the extended Hope community.  More information about the “10 Under 10 Awards” program and a nomination form are available at hope.edu/alumni/awards

CityFlatsHotel is located at 61 E. Seventh St., at the corner of Seventh Street and College Avenue.  Graves Hall is located at 263 College Ave., between 10th and 12th streets.
